Curling & Pin curls

Curling
Step 1: When curling using a barrel iron you need to be careful remembering when you place the tongs down that you put them onto the protective stand as not to burn any surfaces or yourself. Start at the bottom of the hair creating clean thin sections clip the rest of the remaining hair out of the way. Section these wider sections into Small Square like sections to make the hair easier to work with.

Step 2: Wrap the end of the hair neatly inside the tong and curl the hair around the tong remembering twisting the barrel towards yourself will create curls away from the face and twisting the barrel away from ourselves will create curls into the face. Keep barrel close to the head if worried about burning the client take a small comb and place underneath the barrel at scalp, hold for 12 seconds.

Step 3: To release the curl twist barrel once to uncurl the hair then slowly push the hair of the end of the barrel using your hands to help while carefully pinching the tong to release the end section. This is makes sure that the hair remains in a tight small curl. To set the curl push hair together and pin curl until the hair is cool.

Evaluation: I found when using the curling tongs it took me a while to get used to the directions in which to turn the tong also i found releasing the hair difficult at the start although towards the end of the front section i got used to using it , i liked the effect that the smaller tongs have and how you can manipulate the curls after either by pin curling or brushing out and creating a softer wave.

Pin Curls
Step 1: After curling the hair with the tongs take sections starting from the bottom of the section you wish to pin curl and pull together from the bottom wind up the curl taking the direction from the curl and then pin at the top, the second pin curl will then sit upon the pin of the previous so it’s then hidden.

I found the pin curls easy and a quick and effective look to create.
